Blackheads and whiteheads occur when pores are clogged with dead skin cells, oil and / or bacteria.

Blackheads stay open and have the black/dark appearance due to air that comes in and oxidizes the trapped sebum.

Whiteheads close and give the appearance of a white dot which can be slightly raised as it tries to push its way out.

Both of blackheads and whiteheads are caused by clogged pores, so they’re usually treated similarly.

Look for products that contain salicylic acid or retinol to remove oil and dead skin cells that are clogging your pores.

No blackhead removal is complete without retinol. Retinol will speed the rate at which the skin turns over and will push the blackheads out from the inside. While Salicylic Acid dissolves skin debris that clog pores and acts as anti-inflammatory.

Both blackheads and whiteheads are completely normal. Be patient and do not touch your face.
